In our series of A SIT DOWN WITH we speak with one of our amazing Account Handlers, Laura McGowan.
Do you enjoy working at MFL?
So far so good, it’s nearly 3 months and I’m still getting to grips with things but everyone has been very welcoming. I definitely think moving to MFL has been a good move.
What made you want to join MFL?
Knowing that I would be part of a company that has an amazing culture and to be part of a new team and help the business grow within the general commercial sector was too good an opportunity to miss.
What have you found most challenging during your time here?
As with any new role adjusting to a new way of working, but I have enjoyed the challenge. It’s great to have the support of everyone here who shares their knowledge.
If you had to sum up your role here in one sentence, what would it be?
Varied. No two days and clients are the same, which I enjoy. I love dealing with the different commercial policies and the demands of my clients.
What does a typical day look like for you?
I generally deal with existing clients’ business from general adjustments to issuing, negotiating and issuing renewal terms. I also look at new business enquiries that are assigned to me.
What’s your favourite way to spend a day off?
My perfect day is going to the theatre/cinema or any activity followed by a meal & drinks with friends/family.
What do you consider to be your best asset, and how are you able to use this at MFL?
I pride myself on providing excellent service, I also enjoy building relationships with clients & insurers.
What has surprised you most about working here / dealing with clients?
I previously dealt with AR’s (Appointed Representatives) so I was concerned that I wouldn’t enjoy working with clients directly as much, as I built some fantastic relationships with the ARs I worked with. But it’s actually been great and I am already building the same kind of relationships with our clients here.
What has been your favourite part of working at MFL?
Knowing that I am part of a company that has a clear vision for the future and values its staff at all levels.
What do you want MFL to be famous for?
I would like MFL to be well known for providing a market leading service for all aspect of commercial risks
